OPTION TWO – Essay – Africa Topic

Take the same topic you used for your Newspaper Analysis and write an essay which connects that topic with the History of Imperialism in Africa. Specifically, how is your chosen topic the outcome of imperialism? You should explore this thoroughly in your essay.  The essay will be written in class without any notes or aids of any kind. (not every topic will work for this, you will need to figure it out)

OPTION THREE – continuation of the curriculum American Heguemony

Continuing the theme of the class; Imperialism. Think about the United States in the world since WWII, write an essay that explores the accusation that the United States became an empire.   This accusation is particularly sharp from Latin America.  So looking specifically at U.S. actions (military interventions and coup d’etats) and policies in Latin America, is the accusation of imperialism justified against the United States?  You should not just state your opinion but you must show that you understand the inherent criticism of calling the U.S. an empire and what that criticism is based on.  The essay will be written in class without any notes or aids of any kind.
