Visiting New York City is always one of my favorite trips. However, as often as I have been there, I had not taken the ferry to the Ellis Island or the Statue of Liberty since I was very young. Besides reliving a slice of my childhood, there’s an unmistakable sense of what many migrant entering the U.S. would have experienced arriving onto American shores. The greyness of the day and the downpour that awaited us at the Statue of Liberty, added a dreary dimension to the experience.
